State law (AS 34.90) requires registration of any unit offered for overnight occupancy for periods of 30 consecutive days or less; operators must provide name, contact (telephone/email/mailing), unit address, year built, unit type, building unit count, accessibility, whether owner-occupied and whether third-party managed, evidence of ownership or tenant consent, and the operator's state business license number. Registrations expire after one year and an operator may register and operate only one short-term rental unit at a time.
How to Obtain a Permit
1) Apply in writing in the form/format prescribed by the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development including the information specified in AS 34.90.010(b) and a signed declaration; 2) Pay the nonrefundable application/registration fee as established by the department's regulations; 3) Department adds the unit to the state short-term rental registry upon receipt of a completed application; registrations expire after one year and must be renewed annually.
