Zoning & Conditions
Short-term rentals (vacation homes) are regulated under Plumas County's Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) rules. Operators must register with the Tax Administrator and remit a 9% tax on all stays of 30 days or less; however, the registration certificate is not a land-use permit or authorization for other purposes.
How to Obtain a Permit
1. Register the lodging with the Tax Administrator within 10 days of commencing business using the Uniform TOT Registration Application. 2. Obtain and conspicuously post the Transient Occupancy Registration Certificate. 3. File quarterly tax returns and remit the 9% tax to the Treasurer-Tax Collector.
