New Vacation Home Rentals (VHR) in the Town of Mendocino are restricted to MU and MC zoning districts; the Town maintains caps of no more than ten (10) VHRs and twenty (20) Single Unit Rentals (SURs). Licensed VHRs/SURs are subject to the County’s Uniform Transient Occupancy Tax and County business licensing; primary-use, noise, transfer, and renewal rules apply.
How to Obtain a Permit
1) Apply for a business license and/or single-unit/vacation-home license through Mendocino County and remit Transient Occupancy Tax. 2) Obtain Department of Planning & Building Services certification that any required Coastal Development Permit (CDP) has been obtained and the use conforms to zoning standards. 3) Maintain timely payment of TOT and business license; renewals require evidence of continuous active use.
