Zoning & Conditions
Short-term rentals are permitted in residential zones subject to a 5% cap for areas outside the Greater Humboldt Bay Coastal area. Occupancy is limited to two persons per bedroom plus one (excluding children under 12), and one off-street parking space is required per rented bedroom. Operators must provide a Good Neighbor Guide to neighbors and are limited to owning three permitted parcels.
How to Obtain a Permit
1) Submit an Administrative Permit application to the Humboldt County Planning & Building Department, including a grant deed, site plan, and a signed affidavit of Good Neighbor Guide delivery. 2) Pay the $190 application fee and ensure compliance with parking and occupancy standards. 3) Renew the permit every two years by submitting a Statement of Continued Operation and the required renewal fee.
