Short-term rentals are allowed only in the B-3 (Central Business) zoning district and must comply with Town parking, lodging tax, health, building and fire codes; maximum occupancy may be limited by available off-street parking; exterior signage for STRs is prohibited and outdoor noise must cease by 10:00 p.m.; a responsible person must be designated and available 24/7 and listings must display the Town registration number.
How to Obtain a Permit
1) Complete and submit the Town registration form (owner and responsible person contact info, MT Dept. of Revenue tax registration number, sketch plan showing bedrooms and off-street parking) and pay the registration and fire inspection fees; 2) Obtain required initial fire inspection signed by a District Chief or NFPA-certified inspector and provide either a signed pre-operational health department report or a valid state public accommodation license; 3) Town Manager reviews materials, issues registration when requirements met; registrations expire after one year and must be renewed annually.
