Applies to properties in unincorporated Cherokee County residential zones; a county-issued Short-Term Rental Certificate is required; no STRs in multi-family developments; maximum of five (5) bedrooms offered for rent; occupancy limited to 2 persons per bedroom and no more than 16 persons total (children 10 and under excluded); local 24-hour contact required; parking, septic/health, smoke/CO detector, fire extinguisher, posted information notice, quiet hours, and prohibition on outdoor speakers are required.
How to Obtain a Permit
1) Submit an application to the Cherokee County Development Services Center (initial and annual renewal) including owner/24-hour contact info, property details, parking info, proof of ownership/insurance, and Health Department septic evaluation if applicable. 2) Pay the initial administration fee; certificates expire annually on December 31 and are non-transferable. 3) Upon county approval (within 7 business days), receive and post the unique ID certificate in the unit.
