Zoning & Conditions
Short-term rentals (STRs) are defined as lodging for less than 30 consecutive days and require an approved registration. Operations are subject to zoning ordinances and private HOA rules; owners must designate a 24-hour local contact, maintain $1,000,000 in liability insurance, post registration certificates on-site, and comply with noise, occupancy, and nuisance regulations.
How to Obtain a Permit
1) Submit a registration application packet including owner ID, floor plans, interior/exterior photos, proof of $1M insurance, and a self-inspection form to STRRegistration@plano.gov. 2) Pay the $300 non-refundable application fee via credit card or check. 3) Upon city approval, receive a one-year registration certificate which must be displayed inside the rental and included in all advertisements.
