Zoning & Conditions
Short-term rentals (STRs) are permitted only in approved accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and only within Single-Family Residential (R) zones, Residential Multiple-Family (RM) zones, and Downtown (DN) Mixed Use zone; it is unlawful to operate an STR in an entire single-family dwelling, duplex, or multi-family unit. Additional constraints: maximum one STR per qualifying lot; occupancy limited by International Building Code square-footage standards; parking governed by ADU ordinance and traffic code; noise prohibited from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.; a door-posted notice to occupants is required.
How to Obtain a Permit
1) Complete and submit the Bountiful City Short-Term Rental Permit application to the Planning Department (include owner’s affidavit, completed STR checklist, plans/approvals if applicable) and pay the application fee ($225; $100 if an ADU is already approved or is applied for concurrently). 2) The Planning Department will process only complete applications and schedule the permit for review at a public Administrative Committee meeting (the department mails courtesy notices to property owners within 300 feet and posts a site sign at least 10 days prior). 3) If approved, the owner must obtain and maintain a current City business license for the STR.
