Zoning & Conditions
Short-term rentals are permitted by right in all zoning districts, but those with shared amenities or allowing hunting require a Conditional Use Permit. Operators must submit a property management plan (including local contacts and parking sketches), pass a safety inspection (fire extinguishers, detectors, GFCI), and register for business licenses and lodging taxes.
How to Obtain a Permit
1. Register with the Halifax County Commissioner of the Revenue for a business license and lodging tax arrangements. 2. Submit the STR Registration Application and $75 fee to the Zoning Administrator, including a property management plan. 3. Pass a safety inspection by the Zoning Administrator and County Building Official.
