Zoning & Conditions
TRHs are defined as lodging, cabins, or cottages offered for pay to transients; a TRH license allows up to four units (more requires a hotel license). Operators must comply with county and local zoning/conditional-use requirements, and properties with private wells must pass annual water testing and onsite health inspections.
How to Obtain a Permit
1) Contact the local municipality (township/village/city) and County Zoning (715-532-2156) for land-use or conditional use permits. 2) Submit a Lodging Application and fees to Rusk County Environmental Health. 3) Schedule an onsite inspection and provide annual water test results if using a private well. Licenses must be renewed annually by July 1st.
